Asciilands is a free browser game made by one developer, Qaz. This page says what the game keeps about you and why. The short version: as little as it can.

Playing as a guest

• Your browser keeps your guest character, settings and a random guest key. The game server keeps that character's progress, linked to the key.
• No account, name or email is needed. Clearing your browser data loses the key, and with it the guest character.

Signing in with Discord

• Discord gives the game your Discord user ID, username, display name and avatar. That is all it asks for.
• If you choose to join the Asciilands Discord server while signing in, Discord also lets the game add you to it. Nothing else is done with that permission.
• The game keeps your account, your characters and their progress, linked to your Discord user ID.
• If you are in the Asciilands Discord server, the game reads your membership, your roles and the date you joined. It uses them to give Founder and supporter perks, and reads nothing else from the server.
• In the bug reports and suggestions forums, the Asciilands bot reads each new post to find similar posts and link them. It does not keep what it reads.
• A sign-in cookie keeps you signed in for up to a week. It is only used by Asciilands.

Supporting on Ko-fi

• If you support the game on Ko-fi and give your Discord ID, the game records that ID, the amount, the currency and Ko-fi's transaction ID to unlock your supporter perks.
• Ko-fi handles the payment. The game never sees your card or payment details.

Keeping the game fair

• To enforce bans, the server keeps a salted hash of your IP address and of a browser token while you play. The raw IP address is never stored, and old hashes are deleted automatically.
• Player counts on the server are kept without IP addresses, cookies or browser fingerprints.
• In-game chat is not saved.

Keeping the game smooth

• Once a minute while you play, the game sends the server its frame rate, your graphics settings and whether your graphics chip is built in or separate. The server only keeps daily totals for everyone together, so they never say who you are.

Who else is involved

• Cloudflare serves the website and protects the servers. Discord handles sign-in and the Discord Activity. Ko-fi handles support payments. Each has its own privacy policy.
• Your data is never sold, and there are no ads or ad trackers.

Your choices

• You can sign out at any time, and remove the app from your Discord account under Discord's Authorized Apps settings.
• To see or delete your account and characters, open a ticket in the Asciilands Discord or email [email protected]. Deletion is permanent.
